Lets get a few things straight, ALOT of people afk mine. Put a puzzle/stuff you need to do ever 10 minutes and you lose all your afk miners who only check back every 20 to 30 mins to drop ore off etc.
Alot of people multi box while they pvp, a hisec miner and so on often running some easy isk generation while you concentrate on pvp. You arent gonna be flicking back from the fleet to do a 'mini game'.
All the hype about bots... Well, look at bots this way: If a player has a bot and a main who pvp's uses the bot to make isk to buy ships to pvp with, saving himself from part of the game that he doesnt like. Who is he really damaging? Take away that easy isk and he wont be able to buy ships from the industrial guys, so he plays less.
Take away all the bots and you also make the price of minerals rise ALOT, so, pvpers can afford less ships, so they buy less from the industrial guys.
Take away all the bots and the mineral prices rise, so YOUR boats, hulks etc will cost probably double what they do now. Are you happy to spend 350 milion isk on a hulk hull, knowing that it is a good target for gankers and especially during hulakgeddon etc?
Take away all the bots and suddenly there are less targets for those gankers, that means you.
The sudden rise in mineral costs will make battleship combat (already steadily declining) becomes even less viable, so smaller ships are used. So you no longer sell battleships at a decent rate.
The botting problem isnt about the guy who uses one to make isk so he can play more pvp etc, the problem is bots used for A: Real money trading. and B: Fattening already enormously rich alliances.
Back to mining: If you make mining more complex so people cant afk it, then you also get the same problems of mineral cost rises. Look at it from a trading view, is it better to sell 1 ship every day fro 100 mill, or better to sell 10 ships a day fro 10 mill each? Some will say the 1 ship, some the 10 ships. Someone who enjoys their time and seeing their wallet flash will rahyer sell 10 10 mill ships, which in turn also fuels a better and mroe lively pvp game as more ships are available fro less isk.
Also, think of the casual player, he logs in twice a week for an hor a time and just wants to blow some people up. If his Drake costs 200 mill isk because of inflated costs and he loses that ship, will he keep loggin on to grind that isk up again? Probably not, he will probably quit. Less players = worse Eve. While that drake is 50 mill, he can make that back in no time and get back on the field. So he stays and carries on playing.
So, the end line is that low mineral prices is actually good for the game and good for you.
Just my 372398 cents (sorry for the long post) and yes my main is a pvper and I AFK mine while playing, or watching TV. No I dont bot as i dont need to.
